The family stated the company should face broader accountability for the widespread gate access failures.
"I was hoping to apply perhaps the money I got back to other tickets," Jim Wells said.
The escalating costs of alternative options presented a severe barrier to entry.
"But the least expensive tickets there were, like, $2,300 apiece," said Jim Wells.
Greg Wells demanded greater commercial responsibility from the platform.
"For every single person that has had to wait at the gate and not go in, StubHub should be held responsible," he said.
StubHub and FIFA Respond
StubHub released a statement attributing the issues to external technical changes and infrastructure updates managed by tournament coordinators.
"We understand that attending the World Cup represents a significant investment in time and money, and we take our responsibility to every fan who books through our platform seriously.
Many of the issues fans are facing trace back to the event organizer's technology infrastructure, newly-announced transfer restrictions, and a new app that was launched just a month ago ahead of such a major event.
We've responded by standing up a dedicated World Cup support team and expanding our capacity to source replacement tickets for affected customers.
Every order is backed by our FanProtect Guarantee, and getting fans to their matches remains our top priority for the rest of this tournament," stated a StubHub spokesperson.
FIFA countered the ticketing platform's assertions, stating that its proprietary digital infrastructure has successfully processed transactions for millions of attendees.
"FIFA's official FIFA World Cup 2026™ ticketing platform is operating reliably at scale, as demonstrated by over 5 million people attending matches to date, with tickets successfully purchased, delivered, resold, transferred and validated through FIFA's systems.
FIFA has no visibility over, or control of, secondary market ticket transactions carried out on third-party platforms.

The transactions facilitated on these platforms occur entirely independently of FIFA's official ticketing platform," stated a FIFA spokesperson.
