Former federal prosecutor Ty Cobb, who served as special White House counsel during Trump's first term, supported legislative scrutiny into the president's financial activities and asset growth.
"Trump's corruption is one of a kind," said Cobb.
Cobb specifically criticized the proposed $1.8 billion fund, noting it has generated substantial friction among lawmakers, and called for probes into multi-million dollar stock trades and foreign investments.
"There's no way to discuss the slush fund as anything but criminal conduct," said Cobb.

"Today, President Donald Trump disclosed that the Trump family crypto ventures generated the vast majority of his income in the first year of his presidency," said Senator Elizabeth Warren.
President Trump rejected allegations of wrongdoing on Wednesday, stating that outside advisers manage his investments through a secure structure.
"I'm profiting, because the stock market's going up … Everybody's profiting," said Trump.

"Everybody is profiting," said Trump.

"President Trump only acts in the best interests of the American public," said White House Spokeswoman Kayleigh Kelly.
Republican leaders have warned that a shifting majority would alter the focus of congressional committees toward targeting administration allies and donors.
"You gotta win the midterms, because if we don't win the midterms, it's just gonna be … I mean, they'll find a reason to impeach me," said Trump.
