The Kansas City Chiefs released updated economic projections on June 30, 2026, for their proposed relocation to Kansas.

The $4.5 billion development is expected to generate an $8.2 billion one-time regional impact during construction.

The project includes a $3 billion dome stadium in Wyandotte County, a $300 million headquarters and practice facility in Olathe, and $1.2 billion in private ancillary real estate.

The stadium, designed by Manica, is scheduled to open in 2031.

The State of Kansas offered a public subsidy covering 60% of the cost, totaling $1.8 billion.

The subsidy has drawn scrutiny given the Hunt family's $25.6 billion net worth, as reported by Forbes.

Construction and Long-Term Economic Benefits

During construction, the project is projected to support 36,500 full-time equivalent job-years, generate $2.7 billion in employee compensation, and bring $106.4 million in tax revenue to Kansas.

Once operational, the facilities are expected to attract over 1 million visitors annually for NFL games, concerts, and events.

This would bring $1.5 billion each year to the greater Kansas City region, supporting 8,500 permanent jobs, $833.9 million in annual compensation, and $67 million in annual tax revenue.

Chiefs President Mark Donovan emphasized the project's transformative potential.

"This once-in-a-generation project – which is really four projects in one – offers a truly transformational impact for the State of Kansas and the entire Kansas City region," he said.

Donovan noted the franchise's history since relocating from Dallas in 1963 and its continued economic and cultural impact.
