Trident rookie Freddie Slater secured his maiden Formula 3 pole position on July 3, 2026, after delivering a late 1:45.620 lap time during a dramatic qualifying session ahead of his home race at the Silverstone Circuit.

The British driver bounced back from having an earlier pace-setting lap deleted for exceeding track limits at Copse corner.

That briefly dropped him to the bottom of the timesheet before he recovered to lead the field by 0.260 seconds.

Slater had also dominated the free practice session earlier in the morning by setting an unbeatable opening lap of 1:46.161.

He finished clear of Campos Racing driver Ernesto Rivera and Trident teammate Matteo De Palo.

Campos Racing's Théophile Naël secured second place in qualifying, while Prema Racing's Louis Sharp finished third ahead of Rivera, De Palo, and Red Bull junior Fionn McLaughlin.

Home Track Advantage

Feeder Series spoke to Slater and Sharp after qualifying about how their extensive experience at the track aided them in their efforts.

"Coming here was also a bit more normal for me. I understood when things were happening throughout the session," said Slater.

"In practice and qualifying, I kind of understood a bit more why they were happening because I have a bit more track knowledge here."

Slater noted that navigating the current machinery required adjustments despite his historical success at the circuit, which included a double victory during the 2025 GB3 season opener.

"That still doesn’t mean you’re going to be easily fastest, and in this car, it’s completely different to what I’ve driven previously," he said.
