Conservative media commentator Tucker Carlson announced in an interview published Wednesday that he plans to help launch a new political party in the United States, following his split from the Republican Party.

Carlson, the former Fox News host turned podcaster, revealed his intentions to the Columbia Journalism Review amid internal fractures within both major parties over international conflicts, specifically President Donald Trump's military intervention in Iran.

"There should be a good-faith effort to figure out what benefits the country," Carlson said.

He explained that his relationship with Trump completely deteriorated over the administration's foreign policy choices.

"I do know what really matters is war and finance," Carlson noted, adding that the current two-party system lacks true distinction on foundational national issues.

"I'm going to help build a third party," he stated.

Carlson also advocated for drastic changes to domestic policies, including economic adjustments and a total halt to immigration due to technological changes.

"I'm for less immigration," he said.

When questioned about his strategic goals, Carlson rejected the idea that his decisions were part of a calculated media plan.

"I'm not strategic in any way," he said.

His public break from the Republican Party follows months of growing frustration with the administration's direction.

"I mean you, and I, and everyone else who supported him, you wrote speeches for him, I campaigned for him," Carlson said.
