The Met Office issued weather warnings on Sunday as temperatures in the United Kingdom are forecast to peak at 34C by Thursday, while heavy rain threatens parts of Scotland.

An official heatwave is expected to be declared in parts of the South East by Monday after temperatures reached 29C over the weekend.

A yellow rain warning is in place for north-west Scotland from Sunday evening until Monday morning, with up to 100mm of rain expected on high ground.

Health Alerts and Water Restrictions

The UK Health Security Agency issued yellow heat health alerts covering the East Midlands, East, South East, South West, London, and West Midlands from Saturday until July 11.

The agency warned that high temperatures could cause minor impacts across health services and increase the risk to life for vulnerable people.

Water companies are responding to the prolonged hot weather with restrictions.

Southern Water announced a hosepipe ban starting July 10 for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, while South East Water implemented a temporary hosepipe ban in Kent on Friday.

Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell noted that conditions would remain dry across most of England during the overnight period.

"At 1am in the South East of England temperatures will still be around 16 or 17C, further north, you’re looking at 14 or 15C, so pretty warm for overnight," said Mitchell.

The warm overnight conditions are expected to precede a rapid rise in daytime temperatures early in the week.

According to the Met Office, the South East is already hitting the necessary temperature thresholds for an official heatwave declaration.

"We’re already in heatwave threshold category in the South East so, by the end of tomorrow, the South East will officially be in a heatwave," said Mitchell.
