England advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals after securing a 3-2 victory against tournament co-hosts Mexico during a weather-delayed round-of-16 match at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The match was delayed by one hour due to severe thunderstorms. Jude Bellingham then scored twice within 98 seconds to put England ahead.

Mexico's Julián Quiñones pulled one back before halftime.

England defender Jarell Quansah received a straight red card early in the second half. Thomas Tuchel's side played with 10 men before Harry Kane converted a penalty.

Raúl Jiménez responded with a spot-kick for Mexico.

The victory sets up a quarterfinal match for England against Norway, who advanced after Erling Haaland scored a late brace against Brazil.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, in Miami.

After the match, England midfielder Jordan Henderson was administered oxygen and stretchered off the field after injuring his wrist while jumping over an advertising hoarding during post-game celebrations.

Tuchel Provides Injury Update

England head coach Thomas Tuchel addressed the injury to his midfielder after the match as reported by the BBC.

"Not good, not good. Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist.

It looks really bad," said Tuchel.

Tuchel provided a further update during his post-match press conference.

"He injured his wrist, he's gone to hospital. It's quite a serious injury.

It doesn't fit with the night. I don't know if there will be a procedure," said Tuchel.
