Harry Kane later converted a penalty to extend England's lead.
Mexico's Raúl Jiménez scored from the penalty spot.
The hosts pushed hard after England defender Jarell Quansah received a red card in the 53rd minute for a reckless lunge.
Tuchel's Defensive Adjustments
Manager Thomas Tuchel responded by introducing Dan Burn, Djed Spence, and John Stones to shore up the defense.

England held off Mexico's attacks during 11 minutes of added time.
Jordan Pickford made a crucial save in the 15th minute, denying a Jiménez header to keep the lead intact.
“The players are exhausted to the next level and it is beautiful to see,” said Tuchel.
The hostile environment at the Estadio Azteca added to the challenge, as Mexico had previously been unbeaten in 10 World Cup games at the venue.

England will now travel to Miami to face Norway on Saturday for a place in the semifinals.
