Ekiz, currently a sidekick on WNL's Goedemorgen Nederland, shared her career choices and future aspirations in an interview with Nouveau magazine.
She noted she is looking for more meaning outside of her media roles as she approaches her fifties.
“I feel very blessed on one hand, because I do radio, I work for WNL, I get to write and have a profession that I really enjoy,” Ekiz said.
Despite her gratitude, Ekiz expressed a growing desire to contribute more directly to society rather than just offering opinions on television.
“But I'm thinking more and more often: what could I do besides my work in the media?
I'm reinventing myself a bit, want to make myself a bit more useful in society,” she said.
Her interest in healthcare was inspired by personal family experiences and her cultural background.
“I would like to use my knowledge of the Turkish language, for example, to make a contribution to healthcare.
That is something that has been on my mind since the illness and death of my father,” Ekiz explained.
Reflecting on her current impact, Ekiz questioned the value of public applause and social media likes.
“Now that I'm approaching fifty, I do think: what have I actually achieved?
