The United Arab Emirates increased its crude oil production above 3.8 million barrels per day in June 2026, reaching its highest output level since April 2020.

The move follows the UAE's exit from OPEC on May 1 to escape supply restrictions.

According to data from Reuters and Bloomberg, the supply surge allowed the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to offer discounted crude through tenders, attracting new interest from Chinese independent refineries and buyers from California.

The expansion aligns with statements from Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei during the exit, who noted the nation needed to supply global markets and support its production investments.

Ship-tracking data from Kpler and Vortexa indicated that broader Gulf crude and condensate exports rebounded by over 3.5 million barrels per day from May, though regional output remains below pre-conflict levels.

Kpler senior oil analyst Johannes Rauball explained that multiple regional developments enabled the heightened export volumes from the Gulf nation.

"The rise can be attributed to multiple factors, including a resumption in flows via the Strait of Hormuz, helping to free trapped vessels," said Rauball.

Rauball added that the domestic production increases are rapidly approaching previous operational baselines alongside inventory drawdowns.

"At the same time, we have been observing a ramp up in supply from the UAE, which we estimate is closing in on pre-war levels," he said.

Market analysts from Sparta noted that the widespread availability of prompt barrels created a temporary supply mismatch, attracting unconventional buyers looking for competitive alternatives to Russian and Iranian crude.
