average price of gasoline fell 6.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.71/g.
Conversely, a survey of 13,114 stations by GasBuddy showed Texas average retail prices rose 3.0 cents per gallon over the same period to $3.26/g, though this remains 33.1 cents lower than a month ago.
Market variations across Texas showed the cheapest fuel priced at $2.81/g and the most expensive at $4.49/g, while regional averages reached $3.34/g in Midland-Odessa, $3.32/g in San Antonio, and $3.31/g in Austin.
Meanwhile, the national average price of diesel decreased 11.8 cents compared to a week ago to stand at $4.758 per gallon.
"Average gasoline prices fell in nearly every state over the last week, with diesel declining in all 50, pushing the national average to approximately $3.74 per gallon this July 4 — the third most expensive Independence Day on record, but well off the peak of $4.57 per gallon seen in May," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

De Haan noted that 41 states currently maintain average gasoline prices below $4 per gallon, while 37 states see average diesel prices under $5.
