"There should be an independent investigation, and they should release all the videos," Proano stated.

Legal advocates and local representatives joined the calls for a full investigation, pointing to past immigration enforcement shootings that faced official scrutiny.

"We demand full transparency, an independent investigation into the shooting and any use of racial profiling that led to it, and accountability for the use of deadly force.

Our neighborhoods are not battlegrounds," said Rochelle Garza, president of the Texas Civil Rights Project.

"The victim’s family, my constituents, and the entire community deserve a complete and transparent accounting of what happened," stated Democratic U.

S. Representative Sylvia Garcia.

"While many facts are still unknown, this incident demands a full and independent investigation, including a clear accounting of what occurred and which agencies were involved," remarked Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis.

"Transparency is not optional," declared Hector Sanchez Barba, president and CEO of Mi Familia Vota.

"It is necessary to ensure the public has confidence in the government’s actions," Sanchez Barba concluded.

Neighborhood residents expressed fear and anger following the shooting in the historic Latino community.

"I'm Latina, I'm Chicana, but that could easily be me, going down the street on the next block over," said resident Janie Torres.

"None of the Hispanic community should be having to have fear of going out, going to the store, going out for the weekend with their family.

... We shouldn't have to be doing that in fear.

We shouldn't have to," Torres stated.

"This is my neighborhood," added resident Gina Danielsen.

"ICE needs to leave us alone," Danielsen said.

"People are here to work," Danielsen noted.
