Ford has issued a safety recall for 42,784 rear-wheel-drive Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers in the United States.
The recall addresses a faulty rear differential pinion shaft that can fracture and cause a sudden loss of power.

According to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue stems from bending fatigue in the pinion shaft.
This component transfers power from the electric motor to the wheels.
A fractured shaft leads to a loss of driving power or unintended vehicle movement if the parking brake is not engaged.
Drivers may be stranded since these specific models lack a front motor to keep the vehicle moving.

The recall affects certain 2021, 2022, and 2023 model year Mustang Mach-Es. However, Ford noted that the affected vehicles were not assembled in consecutive vehicle identification number order.
Investigation and Global Cases
Ford launched an internal investigation after discovering the issue on a 2023 crossover in Europe. The automaker has since identified 82 related cases globally.
No accidents, injuries, or fires have been reported in connection with the defect.
Dealerships were notified of the recall on July 1, 2026.
