The president-elect framed the financial cutbacks as a necessary measure for national fiscal health.
“This decision, dear compatriots, is going to save the public treasury billions of pesos a year,” he said.
Budgetary savings are slated for reallocation into social services and domestic development projects.
“Every peso we save on bureaucracy will be a peso we can invest in security, health, education, infrastructure, and above all, opportunities for the poorest,” De La Espriella said.
Consular services are also expected to undergo technological updates to modernize public access.
“We have to work, I think, very hard so that in the near future all consular procedures are done online,” he said.
Additionally, local officials confirmed that the presidential inauguration ceremony will be held in Cali rather than Popayán due to weather conditions.
