That setup delivers 440 EPA range miles (708 km) and 559 miles (900 km) on the WLTP cycle.
The prototype's wheels and brake calipers suggest it is an i4 50 xDrive, but a cheaper i4 40 could borrow the iX3 40's 316 hp rear motor and smaller 82.6 kWh battery pack.
However, the shorter wheelbase may limit the ability to fit the full 108.7 kWh battery.
Interior and Lineup
Inside, the i4 Convertible is expected to feature BMW's Panoramic iDrive setup, which includes a display stretching across the base of the windshield, a 17.9-inch touchscreen, and an optional 3D head-up display.
This system debuted on the iX3 and is now being rolled out to other models.
The convertible will not be alone. A fixed-roof i4 Coupe is also coming, along with combustion-powered versions of both body styles.
BMW is also developing electric M4 Coupe and Convertible models, while six-cylinder M4s will continue alongside them.
