"But the one part no one can run away from is that we don't have an explanation still about the $35,000 in a paper bag," Hurt added.

"The attorney general has announced the charges, and I'm genuinely wondering if she is going to tell us how this is related to the original $35,000?

Or is she going to tell us where that is because we cannot forget the statute of limitations is still ticking on that crime and I refuse to let that go away in silence."

Political analyst Colin Moore discussed the security arrangements and potential next steps for the lieutenant governor.

"The voters hired Sylvia Luke to be the lieutenant governor, so I think it's appropriate to continue providing her with security protection," Moore said.

"There could be people who wanted to harm her for who knows what reasons."

"She has been on a leave of absence.

Now after the indictment, it may be time for her to formally resign that position, which of course would end her security protection," he said.

Legal analyst Alex Silvert commented on potential plea negotiations and the relative strength of the government's case.

"There will be discussions between defendants on if anyone wants to cut a deal," Silvert said.

"The evidence is strong against several of the defendants, and the evidence isn't that strong against Sylvia, in my opinion," he said.

In a prior social media statement, Luke previously denied any wrongdoing during her political career.

She stated she "never granted special favors to a contributor," adding that she had "prized integrity and honesty above all" throughout her career.
