In an official statement, Newcastle United said: "The thousands of tributes left in memory of Kevin Keegan at St James' Park have been a moving reminder of what he meant to this club, this city, and the wider football community."
The club added its gratitude to the public following the week of memorial displays. "Thank you to everyone who has visited to pay their respects," the statement read.
The club also expressed appreciation for the support shown to the Keegan family during the week.
"Thank you, as ever, for the love you've shown Kevin and his family this week," it said.
Fan Displays and Tributes
Supporter group Wor Flags announced plans for a venue-wide display incorporating every seat in the stadium, including the visiting section, for Newcastle's season opener against Liverpool on August 23, in collaboration with Liverpool fan group Spion Kop 1906.
"We'll be paying tribute to the most important man in Newcastle United's history at our season opener against Liverpool on Sunday 23 August.
If you'd like to contribute to our display you can do so on our website," Wor Flags said in an official social media message.
TV presenter Declan Donnelly paid emotional tribute to his childhood hero during an episode of his podcast, "Hanging Out With Ant And Dec," alongside co-host Anthony McPartlin.
"Kevin Keegan was the reason that I really got into football, he was the David Beckham of his day.
He was the Lionel Messi and the Cristiano Ronaldo of the 70s and 80s," Donnelly said.
