Following the 1995-96 season, Keegan addressed critics who questioned his team's performance following late-season squad additions.
"The truth of the matter is that the form of five or six players dipped and if they had of played as well as Batty and Tino we would now be champions," Keegan said.
Keegan confirmed his dedication to taking the club forward despite missing out on the league title. "This job’s not even started.
I’ll leave only when I think I can’t take the club forward.
Right now I believe that I can and we can get our hands on some silverware," he said.
Prior to signing Alan Shearer for a then-world record £15m fee in 1996, Keegan reflected on the pressure surrounding the club's trophy pursuit.
"I put pressure on myself – nobody wants to win something for our fans more," he said.
