"Work, work. No father, no mother," said another unidentified migrant arriving on the shore.

"Look at the young people who are arriving.

What a disgrace for a country to drive out its youth like this," remarked a local resident from a balcony overlooking the beach.

Younger arrivals also described their journeys after reaching the beach.

"I told my mother I was just going out for a walk at night with a friend," said Hadiya, 16, who spent three hours paddling with an inner tube.

Later in the day, roughly 100 people wrapped in Spanish flags marched down the city's main avenue chanting slogans against Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, prompting police to step up monitoring efforts across the area.
