"Whether responding to hurricanes, severe weather, large-scale accidents, or other emergencies, the program demonstrates the strength of collaboration, preparedness, and community," said Houchin Community Blood Bank in an official statement.
The readiness corps has been activated 18 times to provide over 1,600 units of blood during large-scale emergencies.
Joanne Krekian, a Red Cross representative in Connecticut, warned about the critical decisions doctors may face. "Some doctors are going to have to make some critical decisions, right?
They're going to have to decide where the blood is going to go.

When it's your loved one who needs a blood transfusion, it's not something you want to be waiting for," she said.
Regional providers are offering incentives to boost donor participation through August, including $20 to $50 gift cards, food items, and event tickets.
"If three more people show up for every blood drive for the rest of the summer, we will eliminate this shortage," said Krekian.
Hospitals typically maintain a five-day supply but have reported inventory dropping to two days or fewer.
"We like to have a five-day supply, and we're down to a two-day supply of blood," said Dr. Eugene Lewis, of St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Patrick Ciardullo, Chief of New Britain EMS, described the severity: "If you were experiencing a massive hemorrhage, we were giving saline, and that was the treatment.
Saline has no oxygen capabilities. We also realize we're tapping into that valuable resource."
Local organizations, including the Lions Club and EMS units, continue hosting emergency blood drives to stabilize local hospital inventories.
In Canada, parallel supply declines have been noted.
Canadian Blood Services reported that donor appointments fell short of typical summer patterns, leading to inventory draws since early June.
"Over the past six weeks, appointments have fallen short by 1,500 to 2,500 each week, requiring a draw on existing inventory to meet patient needs," said Canadian Blood Services in a statement.

"There are now limited days on hand of several blood types - levels that are not sustainable for patient care should this trend not reverse itself," said Canadian Blood Services.
