David Schoenfield of ESPN noted the Rays' need for an offensive upgrade, saying, "If the Rays don't land Skubal, and if some of the other top starting pitchers are off the board, they should pivot to a position player, since the offense is so heavily dependent on Junior Caminero, Yandy Diaz and Jonathan Aranda."
Schoenfield added, "[Luis] Arraez is a sure bet to be traded, heading to free agency and with the Giants out of the playoff picture.
He's also having an excellent season with a . 328 average and better defensive metrics at second base."
The Rays' current second basemen rank in the bottom third of the majors in OPS, making Arraez's . 364 OBP an attractive addition at the top of their lineup.
Although Arraez is not a power hitter, Tampa Bay has power threats to complement his style.

San Francisco's management is optimistic about securing a substantial return for Arraez due to his strong performance and growing interest among contenders, reported Rosenthal and Sammon.
