Rumfield drove in the tying run in the eighth.
The victory improved the Rockies to 20-32 and ended Arizona's season-high five-game winning streak, dropping the Diamondbacks to 26-24.
Stevens, a 27-year-old rookie called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, recorded his first hit of the season off reliever Ryan Thompson.
He drove in Sterlin Thompson, who had hit a full-count double.
Colorado starter Tomoyuki Sugano pitched a season-high 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
He threw 97 pitches across seven different pitch types, giving the Rockies their first quality start since May 1.
"Our bullpen was in bad shape, and we needed him to go a long time," said third base coach Warren Schaeffer.
"He was efficient with his pitches, throwing strikes and just doing what he does with all of his pitches, keeping guys off balance.
He's been huge for us all year, and tonight was no exception."
Arizona took an early lead against Sugano.
