It can happen at any given day. I just got surprised a little by it."
Roy stated that he has put his close friendships with his former Vegas teammates aside for the duration of the best-of-seven series, choosing instead to focus entirely on helping Colorado advance.
"You know you aren't going to text each other for the next week-and-a-half, two weeks, and then we are going to talk about it," said Roy.
"I think it is respect. For right now, we are putting the friendships aside a little bit and we will talk after."
Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar explained that the coaching staff studied extensive film of Roy's championship run with Vegas to determine how to best integrate him into their depth lines.
"We tried to figure out how we would deploy him, and could we get him back to playing as well or better than he did in Vegas.
Because he was a highly effective player for them," said Bednar.
