Vegas Golden Knights right wing Mitch Marner has surged to the top of the NHL postseason scoring charts during the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs after separating from the high-pressure environment of the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer.

As reported by the New York Times and Defector, Marner entered the Western Conference Final against the Colorado Avalanche with seven goals and 12 assists, totaling 19 points through his first 14 playoff appearances this spring.

The offensive outbreak marks a stark contrast to his nine postseasons in Toronto, where he frequently faced intense public scrutiny for failing to advance past the early rounds despite signing a major six-year contract extension in 2019.

Defector noted that Marner's seven goals in 13 games during the first two rounds surpassed his production rate with the Maple Leafs, where he managed just 13 goals across 70 career playoff games.

The winger already has recorded two power-play goals for the Golden Knights this postseason, whereas he endured a 40-game power-play drought in the playoffs during his tenure with Toronto before scoring his lone man-advantage marker in 2023.

Former Teammates Weigh In

Former Toronto defenseman Luke Schenn, who played alongside Marner during the 2022-23 season, suggested that the winger's previous postseason struggles provided a foundation for his current success in Nevada.

"My best guess would be the experience he's gone through.

Sometimes, when you fail, it's a blessing in disguise and you learn from it, so I would say that’s part of it," said Schenn.
