Karl-Anthony Towns delivered a dominant two-way performance to lead the New York Knicks to a Game 1 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old center anchored a second-half comeback, neutralizing Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama defensively while providing consistent interior scoring.

Towns' Impact on Both Ends

Towns finished with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds in 34 minutes.

His rebound total was the second-highest in the game, behind only teammate Josh Hart.

Defensively, Towns held Wembanyama to 28.6% field goal shooting, tying for the third-worst offensive efficiency outing of the Frenchman's season.

Wembanyama recorded 26 points and 12 rebounds in 38 minutes for San Antonio, but he committed six turnovers and struggled from the field despite shooting 92.3% from the free-throw line.

Towns also dished out four assists, slightly below his postseason average of 5.9 per game, as he focused on defensive duties.

Head coach Mike Brown praised Towns' physical performance after the match, noting that New York established an early advantage in the playoff series.
