Fox Sports Senior Vice President of Digital Michael Bucklin expressed surprise at the rapid accumulation of online traffic.
"We expected to get to that mark.
I don’t think in a million years we expected to get to that mark in five days," Bucklin said.
"The World Cup gods are shining down kindly upon us at the moment."
The media executive noted that while the initial fixtures served as a broader celebration, the operational focus has shifted toward the upcoming second round of group stage matches.
"We’re really focused on getting through this first group leg," Bucklin said, noting the scheduled United States-Australia fixture.
"The opener is more of a celebration. This next one actually has impact on the tournament.
