The 2026 NBA Draft begins Tuesday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with two former Kentucky Wildcats waiting to hear their names called.

Jayden Quaintance and Otega Oweh represent the Wildcats in this year's draft, though their paths to the professional level differ significantly.

Quaintance's Injury Struggles

Quaintance, a 17-year-old forward, entered college as a top-five prospect but suffered a severe knee injury in February 2025.

He tore his ACL, damaged his meniscus, and fractured his knee while playing for Arizona State. After transferring to Kentucky, persistent swelling limited him to just four games.

Despite his limited play, Yahoo Sports NBA insider Kevin O'Connor projects the Boston Celtics could select Quaintance with the No. 27 pick.

"Quaintance is going to get drafted based almost entirely on what he looked like before his knee exploded," O'Connor wrote.

O'Connor noted Quaintance's 7-foot-5 wingspan and defensive instincts as reasons teams might take a chance.

Quaintance detailed his rehabilitation efforts to The Cats' Pause, including PRP shots, steroid injections, and extensive icing.

"I'm focusing on my rehab, making sure everything's going well. Trying to get rid of the swelling," Quaintance said.

The forward was not invited to the green room in Brooklyn, reflecting a drop from his original draft projection.

Oweh's Steady Rise

Otega Oweh, in contrast, enters the draft after a healthy senior season at Kentucky.

He averaged 21.1 points per game in SEC play and finished his college career with 1,255 points.

Oweh recorded a historic 35-point, eight-rebound, and seven-assist performance against Santa Clara in the NCAA Tournament.

Experts project Oweh as a second-round selection due to questions about his 3-point shooting and shot creation.
