The victory moved Texas into a tie with Toronto for the third and final American League wild-card spot, with both teams holding identical 39-42 records.

Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman allowed six runs on 10 hits over six innings.
He surrendered a lead-off home run to Joc Pederson, then a three-run shot to Wyatt Langford and a two-run blast to Jake Burger in the third inning.
Rangers left-hander MacKenzie Gore earned the win, limiting Toronto to three runs over seven innings.
Jacob Latz secured his 15th save despite allowing a two-run homer to Kazuma Okamoto in the ninth.

The game also marked the return of Rangers shortstop Corey Seager, who had missed 12 games on the concussion list.
Before the matchup, MLB announced that Toronto second baseman Ernie Clement won Phase 1 All-Star voting to earn a starting spot, finishing just behind Shohei Ohtani.
"It's tough coming in second place to the Dodgers again," Clement said. "But he's one of the greatest players to ever play this game.

Patrick Corbin is scheduled to pitch for the Blue Jays against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on Friday in the second game of the four-game series.
