Furthermore, the mayor teamed up with New York Governor Kathy Hochul to establish twenty-dollar shuttle buses to MetLife Stadium.
This transit policy directly countered the initial hundred-and-fifty-dollar train tickets proposed by New Jersey Transit. Cost remains the primary complaint among local match viewers.
"That's the only problem, we wish it was cheaper," said Crabtree.
Parelli echoed these financial concerns, stating that high ticket costs have excluded many local soccer enthusiasts from attending the stadium matches in person.
"It's too expensive, especially for locals," said Parelli.
"If I'd won the [ticket] lottery I'd have been able to go but we're pretty much priced out."
The high prices mean young professionals feel excluded from stadium seats. Meanwhile, Fifa maintains that tournament profits will eventually flow back into grassroots soccer development.
Mamdani strongly defended the true purpose of the international tournament when federal authorities threatened enforcement actions within the city.
His speeches resonated widely with younger generations.
"The World Cup is supposed to be a celebration of the world as a whole," Mamdani said.
"And some of the decisions that we've seen have been taken by the federal administration is anathema to what this tournament is supposed to be about.
We want this to be a tournament that reflects our commitment of us being part of something larger than ourselves and that is the world's games, which everyone should be allowed to be a part of."
The federal administration has maintained a low profile during the tournament. Conversely, certain federal officials intervened to ease travel restrictions for specific international participants.
