West Indies Women began their final group stage match against Ireland Women at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Bristol on Saturday, June 27, 2026, aiming to secure a semi-final berth.

Ireland won the toss and elected to bowl first under slightly overcast conditions, restricting West Indies to eight runs for the loss of one wicket after the opening over.

Irish bowler Aimee Maguire dismissed opener Qiana Joseph for eight runs, caught by Leah Paul, leaving captain Hayley Matthews at the crease before the interruption.

West Indies entered the fixture following a 38-run defeat against tournament hosts England at Lord's, which left them needing an outright victory against Ireland to guarantee progression without relying on other results.

Prior to the match, the Caribbean squad adjusted their lineup by bringing in Joseph to open the batting and provide left-arm spin, replacing Karishma Ramharack, while Ireland brought in pacer Jane Maguire for spinner Lara McBride.

Matthews Confident Despite Batting Concerns

"It's all in our hands and I think the fact that it is all in our hands puts us in a wonderful position," said Hayley Matthews, captain of West Indies Women.

The skipper emphasized that the team remained confident about their position in the tournament despite the previous setback against England.

"I think, coming into this (T20) World Cup, if you'd said to us we just have to beat Ireland in the last match and we'd have a semi-final spot, we'd have grabbed the opportunity with both hands," Matthews said.
