The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Czech defenseman Tomas Galvas with the 54th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NHL Draft on Saturday.
The 20-year-old left-handed defender was the franchise's third pick of the event, following the acquisition of two twin forwards earlier.

Galvas has spent the past four seasons playing in the top Czech professional league with Bílí Tygři Liberec.
He recorded 24 points, including eight goals, across 32 games in the Czech league this past season.
In international play, Galvas tallied 26 points and a plus-7 rating in 47 appearances.

He helped Czechia win a silver medal at the 2026 World Junior Championships, contributing nine points in seven games.
Scouting metrics show Galvas generates 1.03 scoring chances per game with a 15 percent conversion rate and a 92 percent pass completion accuracy.
However, scouts noted physical limitations at the NHL level, citing his 5-foot-10, 168-pound frame and a 50 percent puck battle win rate.

Galvas went undrafted in the previous two draft cycles and was not present at the draft venue.
