When pushed for clarification regarding the conflicting accounts, corporate representatives declined to expand further.

"We have nothing to add," a BBC spokesperson said.

The dispute attracted significant industry attention, prompting public criticism from other prominent media personalities.

Former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling wrote on X: "Sad that his total professionalism will be replaced by someone who is considered to be more in touch with the youth of today, even if they know sod all about football or interviewing.

He can't say it so I will."

Currently, Pougatch is anchoring ITV's tournament programming from a custom-built studio facility in New York alongside co-presenter Laura Woods.

"Our studio is in Brooklyn with Lower Manhattan over my shoulder.

It will look spectacular, and I genuinely believe by being there we can absorb the rhythms of the place, right at the heart of it," Pougatch told the Radio Times.
