Coventry City has held positive talks with manager Frank Lampard regarding a new contract, following his success in guiding the club to the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League.

Negotiations are underway to extend the 47-year-old manager's tenure, as his current deal is set to expire at the end of next season, according to the BBC.

Lampard took over the Sky Blues in November 2024 when the team was 17th in the Championship table.

He led them to a fifth-place finish before winning the title the following season with a club-record 28 league victories.

The club is eager to secure his future amid reported interest from other teams, including Fulham, ahead of their return to the top flight after a 25-year absence.

"That's something we have to work on quickly now because of where we're at," Lampard said. "We have to be ambitious.

I know what the Premier League is and it's going to be a challenge."

Former Figures Weigh In

Former Coventry City manager Iain Dowie, who played alongside Lampard at West Ham United, expressed his belief that retaining the manager is vital for the club's top-flight survival.

"I think Frank will stay," Dowie said.

"Given what he did at Chelsea and the player he was, he's had some super moves in management."

Dowie also commented on the club's rumored £20 million bid for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, calling it a significant statement of intent in the current transfer market.

"I think Carl Rushworth is an outstanding keeper," Dowie said. "It would be a real statement bid."

Former Chelsea teammate Jody Morris echoed that Lampard is content at the CBS Arena but faces a balancing act in reinforcing the squad without disrupting team chemistry.

"I think Frank's really happy at Coventry," Morris said. "Every time I've spoken to him, he loves it."

Morris cautioned that while adding top-flight experience is necessary, overhauling the squad could threaten the existing team spirit.

"You want to add quality with Premier League experience," Morris said. "He loves the group's character and togetherness, and how well they play for each other."
