England Men's Test captain Ben Stokes announced his retirement from international cricket on Sunday, June 28, 2026, concluding his career at the third Test match against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the decision, marking the end of a 15-year international career that began with the white-ball format in 2011.

Stokes made his Test debut in December 2013 at Adelaide and has led the Test squad since April 2022.
The all-rounder accumulated major career milestones, including an unbeaten 84 in the 2019 ICC World Cup Final and a match-winning 135 not out at Headingley during the 2019 Ashes.
His highest individual Test score remains a 258-run knock achieved in Cape Town in 2016.
ECB Chair Praises Stokes' Legacy
ECB Chair Richard Thompson said Stokes leaves the international game as one of England's greatest ever cricketers and a defining figure of his generation.
He highlighted Stokes' performances under pressure, relentless competitiveness, and ability to produce the extraordinary when it matters most.
Thompson noted that Stokes inspired younger generations to play cricket through his talismanic presence.
He cited the player's role in driving England to World Cup wins in 2019 and 2022, as well as his heroic Ashes innings at Headingley.
