"Ultimately, they came up against a team ranked sixth in the world in Brazil," Boyd said.

He stated that the specific draw handed to Scotland was uniquely challenging compared to softer groups in the tournament brackets.

"Morocco were ranked seventh in the world," Boyd said.

He argued that the operational reality facing the squad was far steeper than what fans and media commentators acknowledged.

"There are other groups where the highest-ranked teams were 17th and 19th, but we had two of the top-seven teams in our group," Boyd said.

Boyd added that winning a game at this level remains a rare feat for any Scottish team in historical tournament records.

"It shows you how difficult it's been for, I would say far better teams at World Cups to get victories," Boyd said.

The pundit also expressed skepticism regarding the SFA's financial capacity to attract highly paid Premier League managers like David Moyes or Ange Postecoglou to the vacant post.

"So, for me, the criticism has been way over the top because it was always going to be difficult," Boyd said.
