Emma Raducanu has confirmed she will compete in her first-round Wimbledon match on Monday, June 29, despite the risk of worsening a leg injury.

The British tennis player, who won the US Open in 2021, said she is willing to endure physical vulnerability for the grass-court Grand Slam.

“There are certain tournaments you’re willing to do more for, put yourself on the line more for, risk more for,” Raducanu explained.

“For me, of course, Wimbledon is that.”

Raducanu’s preparation has been limited since appearing at the Queen’s final two weeks ago. She revealed she has had very little time on court since then.

On Sunday, she completed an hour-long training session at Aorangi Park. She practiced serves, returns, and third-shot rallies while wearing protective strapping on her right shin.

Observers noted that Raducanu hit the ball cleanly but showed limited lateral movement. She was seen smiling alongside sports agent Jill Smoller.

Raducanu is scheduled to face Croatian world No. 60 Antonia Ruzic in the opening round.
