Viktor Hovland captured his eighth PGA Tour victory by defeating world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in a rare Monday morning playoff at the Travelers Championship.
The 28-year-old Norwegian golfer won the title at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, after birdying three consecutive holes on the back nine to force the one-hole playoff.

Hovland sank a 7-foot putt during the playoff, while Scheffler missed a 2-foot birdie putt that would have extended the match.
The victory is Hovland's first tournament win since the Valspar Championship in March 2025.
Playoff Marks Rare Monday Extension
The playoff was the first Monday extension on the PGA Tour since the 2025 Players Championship.

Hovland had recently dropped outside the world's top 30 golfers after swing adjustments and erratic performances before finishing solo third at the RBC Canadian Open two weeks prior.
Scheffler noted that the greens were firmer than anticipated following the tournament restart, though he maintained he executed his intended line on the final missed putt.
The narrow defeat leaves Scheffler with one victory in 2026, alongside four runner-up finishes and eight top-five placements across 13 starts.

Despite evaluating his recent performances as lacking sharpness to secure wins, Scheffler remains the top-ranked player globally and is the heavy favorite for the upcoming Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
