British actress Anna Dawson, best known for her role as Violet in the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, has died at the age of 88.
She passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, at 3 p. m.

Her death came just six months after the loss of her husband, John Boulter, a soloist in the Black and White Minstrel Show.
Church and Community Pay Tribute
The Christ Church Anglican at Kororāreka Russell announced the news on a local Facebook page, describing Dawson as a “much treasured member of our faith community.”
The church noted that she and her husband previously lived in Okiato and Tapeka, and said funeral details would follow.
Public tributes poured in, including from Carol Challis, widow of Only Fools and Horses star John Challis, who wrote: “Sad news.

Fans of the comedy series also shared condolences online, with one referencing her character: “Anna Dawson aka Violet from Keeping Up Appearances has died.

Others expressed sadness at the loss of another veteran performer from that era, noting fellow cast members Penelope Keith and Michael Byrne.
Career on Stage and Screen
Dawson began her career on the West End stage before moving to television, appearing in Dixon of Dock Green, The Benny Hill Show, and The Kenny Everett Video Show.

She retired from acting in 1995, after which she and her husband relocated to a retirement village in New Zealand.
