The 2027 Corvette Stingray now reaches a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h), making it the cheapest new car in North America to crack that barrier.
General Motors announced the milestone on National Corvette Day, June 30. The entry-level sports car carries an MSRP of $73,495.

That price undercuts every other production vehicle capable of 200 mph. The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, for example, hits 205 mph but costs nearly $100,000.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S matches the Corvette's top speed but starts at $270,300.
A New Engine Powers the Gain
The 2027 Stingray replaces the 6.2-liter LT2 with an all-new 6.7-liter LS6 small-block V8.
According to small block assistant chief engineer Mike Kociba, the added speed comes from "all power."
The naturally aspirated engine produces 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque, increases of 45 hp and 55 lb-ft over the previous model.
It runs a 13.0:1 compression ratio, the highest of any production Corvette, and features a new continuously variable oil pump.
Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Stingray also accelerates faster.
The 0-60 mph sprint drops to 2.8 seconds, and the quarter-mile passes in 11.0 seconds at 124 mph.
GM verified the 200-mph top speed using a standard narrow-body 1LT Coupe.
The company warns that cars equipped with the Z51 Performance Package may not match that figure due to extra downforce.
It also cautions against attempting the speed on public roads.
The announcement marks 73 years since the first production Corvette rolled off the line in Flint, Michigan.

The original C1 topped out at 105 mph, while the later small-block V8 version reached 118-120 mph.
