The New York Rangers continued their active offseason on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, by acquiring goaltender Joonas Korpisalo via trade and signing free-agent forward Joe Veleno.
New York obtained Korpisalo from the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2028 fourth-round draft pick and forward prospect Kalle Vaisanen.

Korpisalo has two years remaining on his contract with a $3 million annual cap hit.
He is expected to serve as the primary backup to starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin following Jonathan Quick's retirement.
In a separate move, the Rangers agreed to terms with former Montreal Canadiens forward Joe Veleno on a one-year contract worth $1.2 million.
The 26-year-old became an unrestricted free agent after Montreal declined to extend a qualifying offer on Monday night.
"Hearing Joe Veleno has signed a one year deal with the New York Rangers," said Tony Marinaro.

Veleno recorded two goals and three assists across 61 games under Martin St. Louis last season while registering a minus-12 rating.
According to PuckPedia, the Rangers entered the summer free agency period with approximately $15.67 million in projected salary cap space under president Chris Drury.
Roster adjustments also saw forward Jonny Brodzinski sign a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Washington Capitals.
Meanwhile, former Rangers Mats Zuccarello and Erik Gustafsson reportedly agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Kings to join former New York coach Peter Laviolette.
The Rangers are additionally exploring trade scenarios involving right-handed defensemen.
