Second Major Fire in Var Department

Simultaneously, farther east in the Var department, another major wildfire erupted near Fréjus.

Three hundred ground firefighters and water-bombing Canadair aircraft fought the flames, leading to the preemptive evacuation of 2,200 people from local campsites and the confinement of 80 nursery school children.

"The whole village is surrounded," according to a witness who recounted the rapid onset of the blaze during the afternoon hours.

Farmers Help Fight Fire in Auvergne

In the Auvergne region, an independent 20-hectare fire broke out in a field near Noyant d'Allier.

Local farmers deployed tractors and water bowsers to assist emergency crews in protecting residential structures.

"We came quickly, we discussed among farmers to come and strip, water, to help the firefighters," stated a local farmer.

Although the fire destroyed a vehicle, firefighters successfully prevented the flames from consuming adjacent residential homes along the edge of the agricultural fields.

"The flames crossed the fields, it caught fire and with the wind it was a disaster," said a resident of Noyant d'Allier.

French emergency services use meteorological baselines to assess risk thresholds, noting that nine out of ten forest fires originate from human activity.
