Dutch brewery Grolsch announced on Thursday, July 2, 2026, the full acquisition of family-owned Limburg brewery Gulpener to enhance its position in an increasingly competitive beverage market.
Grolsch previously held a 15 percent stake in the Limburg-based company and will now expand its ownership to 100 percent, according to a joint statement from both firms.

The collaborative effort between the two organizations spans 30 years.
Following the transaction, only Alfa in Thull and Lindeboom in Neer will remain as independent pilsner breweries in Limburg.
The companies stated that the operational identity, product standards, and regional connection of the acquired brewery will remain intact during this transition.
"Het unieke karakter, de kwaliteit en de lokale verankering van Gulpener blijven behouden.
Continuïteit en herkenbaarheid vormen het vertrekpunt, met ruimte om op langere termijn gezamenlijk verdere ontwikkeling te verkennen," stated the breweries in their announcement.
Gulpener produces local pilsner alongside specialty brands like Gerardus and Korenwolf, the premium Château Neubourg, and BATU Kombucha, a fermented tea beverage.
The acquisition allows Grolsch to expand its portfolio in specialized categories, while enabling Gulpener to utilize the extensive marketing and distribution network of the Overijssel-based brewer.
"Voor Grolsch betekent de overname onder meer een versterking in het speciaalbiersegment en in non-alcoholische dranken," noted the companies regarding the strategic benefits.

Gulpener sources all its beer ingredients, including barley, hops, and water, from a 40-kilometer radius surrounding its production facility.
