While cleaning the debris from her fur, Richardson noticed the puppy attempting to assist with the process.
"She knows I'm trying to help her, so she's, like, grooming herself," said Hal Richardson, rescuer.
Following a veterinary examination that confirmed the puppy was eight or nine months old, Richardson decided to provide temporary care.
"I felt like [she] came into my life for a reason," said Hal Richardson, rescuer.
The arrangement quickly became permanent as the two adjusted seamlessly to living together.
"Whether that was for a couple days or if I were to be her forever home.
She was so comfortable with me from the start, so the least I could do was make her feel loved and cared for until we could reunite her with her owner," said Hal Richardson, rescuer.
The formal adoption was celebrated at Richardson's home with treats and toys after a few weeks of fostering.
"Lovebug and I are two happy girls," said Hal Richardson, rescuer.
Richardson noted that the connection between them felt mutual from the very beginning. "She found me as much as I found her," said Hal Richardson, rescuer.
