"It felt like the slowest sprint of my life!" said Diego, rescuer.
Diego maneuvered past stopped vehicles before realizing an animal was moving in the traffic lane.
"As I'm passing up the lane of traffic, I noticed something up ahead in the middle of the lane move towards the edge …" said Diego, rescuer.
Initially, the object resembled debris scattered across the asphalt. "Honestly, it looked like a bag or some kind of trash," said Diego, rescuer.
Realizing it was a living kitten, Diego felt compelled to park his motorcycle immediately on the shoulder.
"There was not a thought in my mind once I seen it other than let me get this cat off the road!"
said Diego, rescuer.
He rushed into the roadway while another vehicle assisted by slowing down oncoming traffic.
"I turned off my bike and ran as fast as I could to get it off the highway," said Diego, rescuer.
The sprint felt incredibly prolonged due to the high-stakes environment of the freeway. "It felt like the slowest sprint of my life!"
said Diego, rescuer.
Upon retrieving the kitten, Diego noted that the animal had escaped direct impact or major injuries.
"He had no physical injuries when I picked him up, so I don't think anyone dropped [him] from a car," said Diego, rescuer.
Diego speculated that the kitten might have climbed into a vehicle engine compartment before falling out.
"[He] likely was in someone's engine bay and had a low fall," said Diego, rescuer.
