Violent thunderstorms that swept through Quebec on Thursday evening left 20,000 households without power by midday Friday, July 3, 2026.

Hydro-Quebec data shows outages peaked at 9:12 p. m.

Thursday, affecting 139,878 addresses before crews began restoring services.

Hardest-Hit Regions

The Lanaudiere and Laurentides regions remained the most affected around 2:00 p. m.

Friday, with 9,095 and 8,000 outages respectively.

Significant concentrations were reported in Saint-Lin-Laurentides and the Therese-De Blainville area.

Hydro-Quebec stated on its website: "The storms that occurred on the evening of July 2 caused numerous outages in several regions of Quebec.

Work continues today in the affected areas. We are aware of the inconvenience during this period of heat."

The utility warned residents about downed power lines: "For your safety, do not touch them and keep your distance: even on the ground, they may be live."

Environment Canada reported the highest wind speed exceeded 119 km/h in the Lake Saint-Pierre sector, while Montreal-Trudeau Airport recorded a maximum gust of 96 km/h.

The monitoring network Vigilance confirmed that brief torrential rainfall of 22.1 mm in one hour at Montreal-Trudeau Airport on Thursday night did not cause local flooding.
