Vietnam Social Security has completed the distribution of adjusted monthly pensions and social insurance benefits to 3.55 million people, totaling 24.32 trillion VND.

The disbursements were carried out under Decree 162/2026/ND-CP by July 3, 2026.

Cashless Payments Dominate

Approximately 3.32 million beneficiaries received their payments via personal bank accounts, accounting for over 93 percent of the total.

This cashless method reflects a shift toward digital transactions in social security disbursements.

Meanwhile, around 226,000 citizens collected cash payments amounting to 1.395 trillion VND.

Total expenditures for July 2026 rose by 8.08 percent compared to the previous month.

Pension Increase and Additional Support

The government enacted an 8 percent increase for pensions and monthly allowances starting July 1, 2026.

This adjustment aims to protect purchasing power amid rising living and healthcare costs.

An additional support mechanism targets individuals who retired before January 1, 1995, with low pensions.

Those receiving under 3.5 million VND monthly will receive an extra 300,000 VND.

Recipients earning between 3.5 million VND and 3.8 million VND will see their monthly benefits raised to 3.8 million VND.

Beneficiary Reactions

Nguyen Hieu Nghia, a retiree, expressed relief over the increase.

“Being old and suffering from many illnesses means that the cost of medicine is always a constant source of worry.

Even with health insurance, I still have to spend more than 780,000 VND at each check-up on medicines that are not on the list of reimbursed medicines.

This increase relieves the pressure on me.

More importantly, I see that the rights of retirees are still protected by the state and appropriately adjusted to the reality of life,” he said.

Le Thi Lan, another benefit recipient, noted the impact on her family.

“Because I cannot work, the monthly benefit is the main source of income to cover medical costs and living expenses.

An extra income means less burden for the family and fewer difficulties for my children,” she said.
