Former British tennis player Greg Rusedski has named Taylor Fritz as the favorite to reach his first Grand Slam final from the heavily depleted bottom half of the men's singles draw at Wimbledon.

The withdrawal of world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz due to a wrist injury and the early exit of fourth-seeded Ben Shelton have left the section wide open for a new finalist.

Fritz, the sixth seed, and newly crowned French Open champion Alexander Zverev have emerged as the standout performers in that section.

Both have dropped only a single set through their opening three matches.

Under the Radar

Rusedski noted on his podcast that both players are currently performing with minimal pressure while tennis fans focus on top-half heavyweights Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.

The former British No. 1 pointed to Fritz's recent strong grass-court form, including reaching the final in Stuttgart and winning the title in Halle.

"Taylor Fritz has played great on the grass this year," Rusedski said on his Off Court with Greg podcast.

The American holds a commanding 10-5 head-to-head advantage over Zverev, having won eight of their last nine encounters, which further cements his status as the section's frontrunner.

"Finals of Stuttgart, won in Halle. He always liked playing at the Championships.

Always gets a deep run there," Rusedski added.

Fritz's previous milestones include reaching the Wimbledon semifinals last year before falling to Lorenzo Musetti, and making the U.
