However, the post-match handshake turned tense as both players exchanged words at the net.
The disagreement stemmed from a medical timeout taken by Davidovich Fokina late in the fourth set.
The Spaniard appeared to injure his left ankle while chasing a ball and called for treatment during a critical 15-40 break point opportunity on Auger-Aliassime's serve.
After play resumed, Auger-Aliassime immediately committed a double fault.
Davidovich Fokina then recovered his form to win the fourth-set tiebreak, drawing disapproval from the Canadian regarding how the timeout transpired.
Auger-Aliassime expressed relief after securing the final set.
"I've played a few rollercoaster matches in the course of my career but this is at the top of the charts.
It was a crazy match!" he said.

There were only a few points between us and the level kept being high. I'm thrilled to get through because it was a very hard-fought match," Auger-Aliassime added.
Despite the physical toll of the four-hour battle, the Canadian remained optimistic.
"More than four hours and that's a lot of work, a lot of milage in the legs but I feel good and I'm excited for what comes next," he said.
The match also featured a lighthearted moment during a scramble in the fifth game of the fourth set, where Davidovich Fokina leapt to land a spectacular volley.
"I was actually laughing as I was running to the ball, I think that's a first. I was thinking, this is too good.
