US President Donald Trump upended the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, by declaring the fragile interim ceasefire with Iran over.

The announcement followed intense overnight American airstrikes on Iranian assets.

The US Central Command executed massive military strikes in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Qeshm Island as punishment for alleged Iranian attacks on commercial oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington also revoked a license authorizing the sale of Iranian oil.

Tehran retaliated by launching missile strikes targeting US military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait.

Allied leaders at the summit attempted to project unity while addressing the sudden escalation and separate diplomatic tensions, including Trump reviving his rhetoric regarding the American annexation of Greenland from Denmark.

"To me, I think it's over.

I don't want to deal with them," said Trump to reporters at the NATO summit in Ankara as reported by Reuters.

The American leader expressed extreme dissatisfaction with Western allies for not joining the military campaign alongside the US and Israel earlier in the year.

"Why are we spending hundreds of billions of dollars, and they're not there for us?

We've always been there for them," Trump said Tuesday alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He further criticized specific nations, including the UK, despite Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer allowing the US to utilize British airbases for initial operations.

"He said no we'll help after the war is over. I said I don't want that kind of help.
