He also noted that his personal relationship with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was the primary reason he chose to attend the gathering.
"Greenland doesn't help Denmark," Trump said on Monday to a gaggle of reporters at a press conference.

He stated the territory remains strategically vital for the United States while alleging encirclement by foreign vessels.
"Denmark doesn't spend money to really help Greenland, but it's an important part for the United States, and it's surrounded by China's ships and Russian ships," Trump said.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney defended the American actions against Iran, describing them as an appropriate response to regional ceasefire violations.
"Iran had been acting irresponsibly, attacking Saudi and Qatari targets particularly," Carney said on his way into the summit.
